The Chief of Akosombo, Nana Ansah Prem, has called on the newly inaugurated NDC government to focus on job creation for the people of Akosombo and the Asuogyaman District.
Speaking at a thanksgiving rally in Akosombo, the Chief noted that, contrary to popular belief the people of Akosombo are gainfully employed , many residents in the area remain unemployed and face economic hardships.
He emphasized that the people are looking forward to tangible interventions from the government to address unemployment and improve livelihoods.
Nana Ansah Prem also appealed for their Member of Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who recently secured a historic third term in Parliament, to be considered for a ministerial appointment to champion more development in the district.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko expressed his readiness to serve in any capacity but cautioned against pressuring President John Dramani Mahama over ministerial appointments.
He urged stakeholders to trust the President’s judgment in forming a capable team to advance the government’s development agenda.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, assured the gathering of the government’s commitment to reviving key industries in the region. He mentioned plans to rehabilitate Akosombo Textiles, Juapong Textiles, and the Aveyime Rice Project, which are expected to create jobs and boost economic activities in the area.
Government to Address Corruption
Ablakwa also reaffirmed the NDC government’s resolve to tackle corruption. He disclosed that efforts are underway to document instances of corruption and state capture under the previous NPP administration. These findings will be submitted to President Mahama for appropriate legal action by the Attorney General.
The thanksgiving rally was organized to celebrate Thomas Ampem Nyarko’s groundbreaking achievement as the first Member of Parliament in Asuogyaman to win a third consecutive term.
The event drew hundreds of constituents, party supporters, and dignitaries, clergy who praised his dedication to the development of the constituency.
Some top Ghanaian gospel musicians performed at the event.
