President John Dramani Mahama has annulled the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and appointed Assembly Members nationwide.
In accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as modified by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940), this judgment is effective immediately.
The revocation was reported to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development in Accra via a letter signed by the President’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
Until fresh appointments are made, the directive mandates that the Coordinating Directors of the corresponding Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) serve as acting chief executives.
This happens to be the one of the first things the president did after taking office as Ghana’s 6th president on January 7, 2025.
