The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued during the tenure of the previous administration.
This directive, issued on January 15, 2025, follows instructions from the Office of the President and targets a comprehensive review to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria under the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155).
The categories of individuals required to surrender their passports include:
Former ministers and their spouses,
Former Members of Parliament, irrespective of political affiliation,
Members of the Council of State and their spouses, Retired justices of the superior and lower courts, Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives,
Officers of state institutions and board members, Businessmen, entrepreneurs, religious leaders, traditional authorities, and officials affiliated with the National Cathedral Project, among others.
All affected individuals must submit their Diplomatic or Service Passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Friday, January 24, 2025.
The exercise aims to safeguard the integrity of these passports, prevent misuse, and align issuance with current standards.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring this process runs smoothly and relies on the cooperation of all holders to comply with the directive promptly.
