Prominent voices within the Abuakwa North constituency like Mr. Edmund Ayeh Lexis popularly known as Ordinary Ghanaian and others are urging President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to appoint Charles Darko Yeboah, popularly known as Ozay, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.
Supporters argue that Ozay’s appointment would be a politically and socially prudent decision, citing his track record, leadership qualities, and significant contributions to the NDC’s performance in the constituency.
A revered minister with over 13 years of service in the community, Ozay is described as a unifier whose selflessness and open-door policy transcend political, religious, and social divides.
The Case for Ozay
Ozay, who contested as the NDC parliamentary candidate in Abuakwa North in both the 2020 and 2024 elections, is credited with significantly improving the party’s performance in the constituency. In 2016, the NDC faced a vote margin of over 6,000 against the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, Ozay’s candidacy in 2020 and 2024 brought remarkable progress, narrowing the gap to just 770 votes in the latter election.
Supporters highlight that Ozay has not only increased the party’s vote share but also appealed to first-time voters and youth, many of whom supported the NDC presidential candidate because of his influence. His ability to mobilize and energize the constituency has earned him widespread respect and admiration, making him a standout choice for the MCE position.
A Strategic Decision for the NDC
Advocates warn that failing to appoint Ozay as MCE could have serious political repercussions for the NDC in Abuakwa North. The constituency has traditionally been a challenging area for the party, but Ozay’s leadership has significantly bridged the gap, with many attributing the party’s growing appeal in the area to his efforts.
“This is not just about Ozay’s leadership qualities but also about sustaining the progress the NDC has made in Abuakwa North under his influence,” a supporter stated.
The Way Forward
With calls for his appointment growing louder, the NDC faces a critical decision that could shape its political fortunes in Abuakwa North. Supporters hope the party will recognize Ozay’s contributions and position him to continue driving socio-economic development in the municipality.
Charles Darko Yeboah (Ozay) has proven himself to be a unifying figure and an agent of change, making his potential appointment as MCE a matter of both strategic and symbolic importance for the NDC.
