The Eastern Regional Minister Designate Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey will appear before the Appointments committee of Parliament today Thursday January 23,2025.
Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey was among a list of 10 individuals nominated by the President John Mahama on Tuesday January 14 as Regional Ministers designate.
Rita Awatey is a distinguished leader with a wealth of experience in governance, education, and community development.
She holds an MPhil in Leadership from the University of Professional Studies, Accra and has an impressive track record as a local governance practitioner, having served as Presiding Member of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly and Deputy Eastern Regional Women’s Organiser of the NDC.
She is also a seasoned educator and advocate for women’s empowerment, with a commitment to advancing local development and inclusive governance.
She is currently pursing a PhD in Migration at the University of Ghana.
During a recent visit to Chiefs and queen mothers on the Kroboland by the nominee, the traditional rulers excited by her appointment,promised to be in Parliament House in their numbers to support her during the vetting.
On Tuesday, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey , held a meeting with the Eastern Regional Executives of the NDC to among other things brief them on preparation for the vetting .
She took part in the vetting of the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Region on Wednesday before departing to Accra.
The Regional Minister designate has assured to serve with hard work and humility to advance the progress of Eastern region as she acknowledges challenges that confront it.
“We have a lot of challenges we have security challenges, our roads are not good, we need portable water to drink, our youth want to work, our women need to go to market”.
