The official residential facilities meant to accommodate the Eastern Regional Minister and Deputy Minister in Koforidua are in a deplorable state due to poor maintenance and an abandoned renovation project.
Investigations by Mybrytfmonline.com reveal that the facilities were already in poor condition before the immediate past Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong, assumed office.
As a result, he could not occupy the official residence for several months.
Instead, a guest apartment was prepared to temporarily accommodate him while renovation works were expected to be completed.
A visit to the residency revealed that the Deputy Minister’s official accommodation, which has remained vacant since 2020 following former President Akufo-Addo’s decision to cancel the appointment of Deputy Regional Ministers, has been left to deteriorate in an overgrown, bushy environment.
The building has suffered extensive damage, with parts of the roof affected by a rainstorm and the fascia boards rotting away.
Similarly, the main ministerial residence, which was reportedly awarded for renovation, remains abandoned, worsening its condition.
Currently, the newly appointed Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Awatey, is struggling to secure suitable accommodation for herself and her aides, further compounding the challenges of her office.
Stakeholders and residents are calling on the government to intervene and expedite the renovation of the ministerial residence to provide a dignified living and working environment for the region’s leadership.
