Eleven (11) persons all men in the Bono East Region have filed their nomination forms to contest in the forthcoming Council of State Elections which will take place on Tuesday, 11th February, 2025, at all regional capitals.
According to Article 89 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, the Council of State is “to counsel the President in the performance of his functions.”
The Council of State consists of fifteen (15) persons appointed by the President in consultation with Parliament, President of the National House of Chiefs and one representative from each Region of Ghana elected in accordance with regulations made by the Electoral Commission under article 51 of the 1992 Constitution.
Any registered voter who is a citizen of Ghana and of sound mind can contest as a candidate and the election of regional representatives is conducted by the Electoral Commission on the first-past-the-post formula.
Election of the Council of State is not open to the general voting public but through an Electoral College made up of two (2) representatives nominated from each of the District Assemblies.
Speaking in an interview with the Media in Techiman, Dr. Gabriel Dei Yeboah the Bono East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission revealed that by the close of nominations at 5PM on Friday 31st January, 2025; eleven (11) persons had successfully submitted their nominations.
Dr. Dei-Yeboah further announced that the Bono East Regional Electoral Commission together with the Contestants, Security agencies and all other Stakeholders have agreed to hold this year’s Council of State elections at the Bononkyempem Hall in the capital city of Techiman.
