President John Dramani Mahama has taken a decisive step to suspend the rotational policy governing the National Celebration of Independence, citing the exorbitant costs associated with this practice.
According to Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, the most recent independence celebration in Ho incurred a staggering cost of Ghc15m, underscoring the need for a more prudent approach.
In light of this development, President Mahama has opted for a modest ceremony to mark this year’s Independence Day celebration, which will be held at the Jubilee House rather than the Independence Square.
This decision reflects the President’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and his determination to allocate resources in a manner that prioritizes the country’s development imperatives.
