Leadership of the Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana (CTEAG) has expressed their readiness to work together with the new President John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress Government to become successful in that sector.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Kwabena Owusu the National Organizer of the Association congratulated the President John Mahama and his two Ministers who would be working in the cashew sector thus the Minister for Food and Agriculture Hon. Eric Opoku and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare for the landmark successes achieved in the recent elections and their subsequent appointments.
Kwabena Owusu pleaded with the new Ministers to work tirelessly to reset the Cashew sector by taking off Foreigners from the retailing market as our laws especially the Tree Crops Development Authority Act 2023 permits only Ghanaians to participate in the local buying of the nuts.
The Cashew Traders and Exporters Association are also calling for the expansion of our cashew production as enshrined in the ten-year development plan drawn some years back and further propose that at least half of our raw cashew nuts be processed before exporting it to the international market to derive more foreign currencies to support Ghana’s economy.
