The previous administration spent almost $400 million on the Agenda 111 hospital project, but none of the facilities are yet completely operational, according to President John Dramani Mahama.
In his first State of the Nation Address of his second term, he made the announcement in front of Parliament on Tuesday.
An ambitious healthcare plan called Agenda 111 was started with the goal of building 111 hospitals around the nation in order to close the gap in the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.
But according to President Mahama’s comments, none of the hospitals have been finished and put into service despite large cash pledges.
“It is worth disclosing that USD400m has already been disbursed under agenda 111 project,” President Mahama said, indicating that yet not a single hospital under this gargantuan initiative is serving the people of Ghana.
President Mahama went on to say that if resources had been used effectively, the money already spent may have made it easier to finish and open at least 22 of the planned hospitals.
