President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized his Christian beliefs, saying he believes there are only two genders: male and female.
Speaking on Friday, February 28, 2025, at a clergy fellowship at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Mahama emphasized that his leadership is informed by both his personal religious principles and Ghanaians’ cultural beliefs.
“As a Christian, I uphold the values that only two genders exist—man and woman—and that marriage is between a man and a woman,” he said.
The President’s comments coincide with debates around the reintroduction of the Anti-LGBTQI Bill, which he has suggested should be supported by the government instead of being a private member’s bill.
Mahama gave the clergy his word that his government is still dedicated to upholding Ghanaian family values and making sure that laws represent the wishes of the people.
