Youth Impact Parliament (YIP), a vibrant bicameral-modeled Parliament, in Ghana, has benefited from an educational forum organised by the Department of Public Engagement in Parliament.
The forum aimed to enhance youth understanding of governance and legislative processes, providing a unique opportunity for young people to engage with Ghana’s parliamentary system.
Shedding light on the structure of Ghana’s governance system, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, emphasized Parliament’s pivotal role in law-making, oversight, and national development. He highlighted the significance of the public purse, stressing Parliament’s authority in approving the national budget and economic policies.
Hon Isaac Ashai Odamtten, MP for Tema East, also provided further insight into the budget approval process, explaining how Parliament ensures transparency and accountability in financial decisions. He urged the youth to take an active interest in governance to contribute and shape the country’s future.
The Group also had the opportunity to observe parliamentary proceedings in the Chamber.
