Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has advised goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to eschew complacency following Black Stars debut.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper received his maiden invitation in March and did not disappoint, recording a clean sheet in Ghana’s dominant 5-0 triumph over Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Asare retained his spot for Monday’s match against Madagascar, in which he had a clean sheet in a 3-0 win, adding to Ghana extending their lead at the top of Group I to 15 points.
With Otto Addo confirming Asare as the first choice goalkeeper, Dan Quaye has urged him to stay focused and eschew complacency in order to attain greater heights of his career.
“Benjamin Asare merits Black Stars first choice goalkeeper spot. He is an experienced goalkeeper and being in the system for long. He’s had stints with lower-tier clubs before Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak. We all know the impact of local goalkeepers in the national team so I wasn’t surprise with his performance. I was convinced he can deliver when given the opportunity” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM.
“I will advise him not to be complacent after this matches. He should stick to his training and get rid of pride. Asare should be careful and I believe he can attain greater heights”
Ghana’s World Cup qualifying quest is back on track. With the Black Stars to begin their next World Cup qualifier next month, everyone’s eyes will be on Asare to determine if he can transfer his good runs into the game and cement himself as Ghana’s best goalkeeper.
