Former Ashanti Regional Minister has expressed grave concerns over the state of Ghana’s democracy, warning that recent political developments could undermine the nation’s stability. Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem on Friday, he cautioned against the growing trend of dismissing officials, revoking contracts, and raiding homes following the 2024 elections.
“We are on the road to downplaying our democracy if care is not taken,” he stated, emphasizing that such actions set a dangerous precedent. He criticized politicians for making promises they cannot fulfill and for labeling each other as thieves, especially while in opposition.
“If we believe someone has stolen from the state, the law must take its course. We should allow due process and prosecute offenders rather than resorting to political name-calling,” he stressed.
Addressing the ongoing petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice, the former minister acknowledged that some individuals have sought an injunction on the process. He urged that any attempt to remove the Chief Justice or any official should strictly follow legal procedures and not be driven by political interests.
As political tensions rise, he called for maturity and adherence to democratic principles, warning that failure to do so could have long-term consequences for Ghana’s governance and stability.
