Bigwhisker Catfish Farm was established by Mr Herbert Mensah Afedzie, an undergraduate student at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
In October, 2024, the idea for the business sparked when he realized that Ghana’s growing demand for affordable protein wasn’t being met locally.
While studying contemporary enterprise and the practice of entrepreneurship, he gained valuable insights into market research, supply chain management, and financial planning.
With the interest and knowledge gained, he started the Catfish Farm in November, 2024.
During a GIMPA Business Students’ Association Week Celebrations which took place from 7th-12th April, 2025, Mr Afedzie participated in a Business Plan Competition where his entrepreneurial idea caught the attention of Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe who decided to invest in his business with GHC100, 000.
The investment is to support the acquisition of additional juvenile catfish, tanks, water filtration and recirculation system, feed, equipment, and miscellaneous items.
