A section of Ghanaians in the Ashanti region has taken a firm stance on transport fares, urging the president to deploy military personnel to transport stations to beat drivers who fail to reduce fares.
Passengers are frustrated with the high fares charged by drivers despite recent improvements to the reduction of fuel prices.
Speaking in an interview journalists , some passengers revealed that drivers are unwilling to reduce lorry fares, instead charging huge amounts that are burdensome to commuters.
The passengers have called on the government and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to intervene and bring order to the various lorry stations, where confusion has become the norm.
The passengers’ call for military intervention is a clear indication of their desperation and frustration with the situation. They believe that drastic measures are necessary to bring drivers in line and ensure that transport fares are reasonable and affordable.
