The National Identification Authority (NIA) has marked this year’s Identity Day celebration and its 20th anniversary with a public education float and special mass registration exercise in Accra.
The activities, held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, were aimed at raising public awareness of the NIA’s identification services and bringing registration opportunities closer to residents.
The public education float began at the NIA Head Office and passed through the principal streets of Shiashie and Accra Mall before ending at the Legon Business School.
A statement signed by Head of Corporate Affairs ,Darlas Ampomah Williams explained that ,during the float, NIA officials engaged the public on the Authority’s services, locations of its district, premium and prestige centres, as well as applicable fees for various identification services.
Following the float, the NIA organised a special mass registration exercise at the Legon Business School, allowing members of the school community to register and access other identification services.
The exercise forms part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of the NIA and this year’s Identity Day celebration.
The Authority says the initiative demonstrates its commitment to improving public awareness and ensuring residents have access to essential identification services.
The celebrations will climax on Saturday with an inter-agency sports competition at the Legon Sports Stadium.
