The New Juaben North Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Oti Akenten, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic principles, stating that every qualified member has the right to contest for any position after the completion of an office holder’s four-year mandate.
Speaking in an interview on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, Dr. Akenten explained that the NPP’s internal elections are guided by democracy and fairness. He noted that once an executive completes the constitutionally mandated four-year term, the position becomes open for fresh nominations, giving both incumbent executives and new aspirants the opportunity to pick nomination forms and contest.
According to him, there are a total of 11 elective positions in the constituency. Out of these, eight positions will be contested, while three positions are unopposed. He explained that the unopposed candidates will not go through the voting process since no other aspirants filed nominations against them.
Dr. Akenteng further disclosed that most of the contested positions have only two aspirants each. However, the positions of First Vice Chairman and Women Organizer have attracted three aspirants each, making those races more competitive.
He expressed confidence that the elections would be conducted peacefully and transparently, stressing that the party’s democratic tradition allows every qualified member an equal opportunity to seek leadership positions.
