The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court in Eastern Region has remanded a 35-year-old woman, Regina Mamle Tawiah, into police custody for allegedly abducting a nine-year-old girl and attempting to traffic her out of the country.
The accused appeared before the court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors told the court that the suspect allegedly took the child from Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District on April 19, 2026, without the consent of her parents.
The father of the victim reported the incident to the police over missing daughter.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Eastern Regional Police Command, Bridget Opoku, intelligence gathered by the police led to the arrest of the accused at the Kotoka International Airport, where she was allegedly preparing to send the child to Kenya.
The statement said the victim has since been reunited with her father.
Presiding over the case, the judge ordered that the accused be kept in police custody and reappear before the court on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
Meanwhile, investigations into the matter are ongoing.
