A prominent Ghanaian entrepreneur, Nana Osei Afrifa, Chief Executive Officer of Afrifanom group , has been enstooled as the Twafohene of the Odau Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.
Afrifanom is the technology company behind Ghana’s National Digital Property Addressing System, widely known as Ghana Post GPS.
The new chief, who now bears the stool name Baffuor Osei Afrifa, was formally installed in a colourful traditional ceremony on Monday, presided over by Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Chief of Akyem Etwereso.
Daasebre Kwabi Ayebiahwe explained the royal lineage of Baffuor Osei Afrifa, describing him as a worthy royal whose father is the Krontihene of Chia, a community within the Odau Traditional Area.
“It should not surprise anyone that I went to Juaso in Asante Akyem to pick a royal. Odau and Asante Akyem are one family connected by tradition. His father is Krontihene of Chia, so Baffuor Osei Afrifa is a true royal,” Daasebre remarked.
Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe took the opportunity to appeal to government to support ongoing community-led initiatives — particularly the development of the mystical River Kwaniakwa into a major tourist attraction. The river, revered for its spiritual significance, is the focus of a canopy walkway project aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the area.
“We have done our part by building a clinic, police station, and a palace. Now we need government’s support to help complete the River Kwaniakwa project,” Daasebre emphasized.
After swearing the stool oath before the Odau Traditional Council, Baffuor Osei Afrifa pledged his unwavering loyalty to the traditional area and vowed to spearhead developmental initiatives that would improve infrastructure, tourism, and livelihoods in the community.
The event was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, 2024 NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Hon. Asenso Boakye, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Hon. Kofi Marfo, Hon. Akwasi Acquah, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour-Awuah, among others.
Linda Ahenkorah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa, also assured the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the Odau Traditional Council in promoting tourism and economic development.
The enstoolment of Baffuor Osei Afrifa is seen as a major step toward strengthening traditional leadership partnerships for sustainable community development.
The title of Twafohene, a revered senior sub-chieftaincy role, is historically reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, moral integrity, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of their people.
The Twafohene plays a pivotal role in the traditional governance system, supporting the traditional council in the preservation of customary law, conflict resolution, and community-led socio-economic development initiatives.
