There was chaos at Bunso in the Eastern Region over the weekend when an irate group, believed to be illegal miners, clashed with the police over the impounding of a fuel tanker suspected of illegally dispensing fuel in a residential area.
The police moved in to stop the fuel tanker, which was offloading fuel into gallons in the area—raising serious safety and security concerns especially funerals ongoing in the area.
The intervention angered some of the youth, who chased the police officers with machetes, resulting in a violent confrontation.
A reinforcement team was quickly dispatched to the scene to restore order. Several of the attackers were arrested, and the situation was brought under control.
