Dr. Stella Agyemang Boateng has emphasized the critical importance of employee well-being during her address at the HR Connect Conference held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Boateng highlighted that organizations must take employee health seriously — encompassing mental, physical, emotional, and career well-being — in order to optimize productivity and achieve profitability.
“As an organization, you cannot afford to neglect the well-being of your employees. If you do, you’ll only be working with half-prepared individuals, which will affect your output,” she stated.
She explained that Human Resources plays a vital role in championing the people agenda, but it must be supported by leadership, employees, and all stakeholders within the organization. According to her, HR should not work in isolation but must collaborate to implement clear policies and regulations that support employee well-being.
“HR must ensure that well-being policies are not only drafted but are also clearly communicated across the organization so that everyone understands their purpose,” she said.
Dr. Boateng also stressed the need for HR to create and enforce policies that establish healthy boundaries between work and personal life. This, she noted, allows employees the space to live fulfilling lives outside of work — a factor that contributes significantly to overall productivity and satisfaction.
She concluded by stating that HR should serve as an ambassador for employee experience, with well-being as a core pillar. Prioritizing employee well-being, she said, helps attract and retain top talent, and even when employees exit, they remain connected and serve as brand ambassadors.
“Any organization that takes employee well-being seriously positions itself as an employer of choice,” she affirmed.
