Police in Koforidua have arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Kwame, a resident of Srodae, for allegedly robbing and raping a 25-year-old nurse undertaking her National Service.
According to mybryfmonline.com sources, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, who had rented a room in the accused’s family house a few months ago, was reportedly lured into a trap after Kwame, who had allegedly been monitoring her for some time, deceived her into thinking someone was looking for her outside the house near the New Juabenmanhene palace.
When she returned to her room, the accused, wearing a mask, pulled a knife on her and demanded all her money.
Out of fear, the victim handed over more than GH¢1,000 in cash. Kwame is said to have further demanded a mobile money transfer, but the victim had no funds in her account.
The accused then ordered the victim to undress and forcibly had sex with her.
After the incident, Kwame fled the house.
However, the victim, who was able to identify him despite his attempt to disguise his voice, lodged a complaint at the police station.
A search for the suspect was launched.
Kwame later appeared at the police station with his father to plead for forgiveness but was immediately arrested.
He has since been charged with rape, robbery, threat of death, and threat of causing harm, and has been remanded by the Koforidua court.
