On Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem with Nana Yaw Obeng on Bryt 99.1 FM, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North, Mr. Samuel Adongo, addressed the long-standing challenges with traffic lights in the municipality.
According to him, the malfunctioning traffic lights have created serious difficulties for residents of New Juaben North and travelers across the Eastern Region who pass through the area. He explained that the problem has persisted for many years, affecting road crossing and daily activities, especially since the municipality
serves as a central hub for the district.
Mr. Adongo revealed that only one individual has been responsible for the management of traffic lights in the municipality. However, the situation became more complicated after a former government failed to pay the said contractor, which resulted in poor maintenance.
He expressed gratitude to the current government for putting measures in place to resolve the matter. He further noted that the Municipal Assembly, together with other leaders, had engaged stakeholders both within the region and in Accra to discuss the way forward.
The MCE disclosed that the Assembly initially considered repairing the traffic lights with their own resources. However, after investigations, it was discovered that most of the lights had been condemned and could not be repaired.
He assured residents that new traffic lights will soon be imported and installed to restore order and safety on the roads.
