The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North, Hon. Samuel Adongo, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enhancing security and tackling drug abuse among the youth in the municipality. He disclosed that a new Municipal Police Station is under construction to replace the existing MTTU post, which he described as inadequate for effective policing.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, Hon. Adongo explained that the ongoing police facility project will, upon completion, be equipped with all necessary logistics to ensure efficient security operations in the area. He said the new station will help bring protection closer to residents, adding that the old site will be repurposed for other developmental needs once the new building is operational.
Addressing the growing menace of drug abuse, the MCE emphasized that the issue has become a national concern and not just a local one. He expressed worry about the increasing rate of substance use among Ghanaian youth, citing drugs such as “red,” “wonim red,” and other substances that are destroying many young lives.
He noted that drug abuse is not only a problem in Ghana but a global issue threatening the future of the youth who are supposed to be the backbone of national development.
To address this, Hon. Adongo revealed that his office has initiated a rehabilitation and skills training program for young people living in ghettos. He said both boys and girls are being trained in vocational skills, while others who wish to continue their education are being supported to return to school.
According to him, creating opportunities for the youth to become self-reliant will prevent them from idling in ghettos and engaging in harmful activities. He assured that the Assembly will continue to support youth development initiatives to secure a better future for the municipality and the nation.
