Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman Yensom, Chief of Muoso in the Ayensuano area of Atiwa West, has urged national and local leaders to prioritize youth employment and safeguard the environment as he addressed the community during the Yensom Festival durbar held at Muoso. The event was celebrated under the theme “Thanking God Together! Quality Leadership.”
During the durbar, Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman stated that all development needs of the community had been documented, with some submitted to the District Chief Executive (DCE) and others to the Member of Parliament (MP). He expressed concern about two pressing national issues.
First, he mourned the recent tragic deaths of young women who lost their lives while seeking job opportunities during security service recruitment. He stressed the need for humility, trust in God, and responsible leadership, adding that such unfortunate incidents reflect fa killlures in systems meant to support the youth. He called on leaders at all levels to put proper measures in place to create sustainable jobs.
The second issue he highlighted was illegal mining (galamsey). While acknowledging that legally licensed small-scale mining is acceptable, he condemned practices that destroy water bodies and natural resources. He emphasized that water is life, warning that a time may come when the nation will have money and gold but no food or clean water. He encouraged the youth to invest part of their earnings in farming, which he described as a profitable venture capable of boosting Ghana’s economy.
The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Hon. Laurette Korkor Asante, also addressed the gathering. She described the day as historic, recalling the long-standing chieftaincy disputes and misunderstandings that once characterized Moasu. She praised Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman for restoring peace and unity, noting that development is now visible across the community.
Hon. Asante further appealed to other communities within Atiwa West that are still experiencing chieftaincy disputes to learn from Moasu’s transformation. She urged chiefs and stakeholders in those areas to prioritize unity and development for the overall progress of the municipality.
