BOSO – As part of efforts to combat nutritional deficiencies, climate change, food insecurity, and poverty, the Country Director of The Hunger Project, Agartha Naana Quayson, is encouraging women across Ghana to embrace agriculture as a viable and rewarding source of livelihood.
According to her, venturing into farming will not only improve household nutrition but also empower women to generate income, become more self-reliant and confident, and reduce overdependence on their spouses.

Speaking on the sidelines of this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, Ms. Quayson reaffirmed the critical role agriculture plays in Ghana’s economy, providing livelihoods, contributing significantly to GDP, and ensuring national food security. She urged women to adopt agriculture as a sustainable lifestyle capable of improving family well-being and boosting economic independence.
She noted that The Hunger Project envisions “a world where every woman, man, and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.”
According to her, the organization does not simply provide food aid but invests in people, especially rural women, by helping them unlock their potential and empowering farmers to become the architects of their own development.
Connecting her remarks to the Farmers’ Day theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure Ghana,” Ms. Quayson emphasized the need for a collective effort that includes investing in local farmers and supporting growth across the agricultural value chain. She also underscored the importance of valuing locally grown produce and adopting climate-resilient practices to protect land and water resources.

The District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Hon. Godwin Bobobee, also highlighted agriculture’s pivotal role in the district’s development. He stressed the need to strengthen the sector to sustain the local economy and reaffirmed government’s commitment to making agriculture the engine of economic transformation through various interventions.
