The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, has once again demonstrated his deep commitment to social welfare as his flagship “Shop for Free” initiative—now in existence for over four years—continued to bring relief and dignity to elderly citizens in Koforidua.
The latest edition of the programme was held on 13th December 2025 at the Koforidua Betom Methodist Astroturf, targeting aged persons 65 years and above. In a show of inclusivity, the initiative was opened to all elderly residents within Koforidua, regardless of constituency boundaries.
Beneficiaries received essential food items including bags of rice, live fowls, meat, and other assorted products, aimed at easing the financial burden on the aged, especially during the festive season.
Beyond food support, the programme also featured free health screening services, allowing beneficiaries to check their health status and receive basic medical advice. In addition, professional hairdressers were on hand to groom the elderly, adding a touch of care and confidence to what many described as a memorable and uplifting experience for “our beautiful mothers and fathers.”
The event recorded a massive turnout, with thousands of elderly persons already served, while many others were still in queues to receive their items at the time of reporting.
Having impacted lives consistently for more than four years, the “Shop for Free” initiative has become a hallmark of compassion, dignity, and community service, earning widespread praise from beneficiaries and residents who described it as timely and life-changing.
The programme continues to underscore Hon. Okyere Baafi’s sustained dedication to community development and the well-being of the elderly in Koforidua and beyond.
