The Minority Caucus in Parliament commended Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, describing the victory as a clear endorsement of his leadership by party delegates.
In a statement, the caucus stated that Dr. Bawumia’s victory in the presidential primaries demonstrated significant confidence in his vision and ability to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
“His election represents a clear mandate from NPP delegates across all 276 constituencies, both at home and in the diaspora, to lead the party into the 2028 general elections,” the statement said.
The caucus praised Dr. Bawumia’s campaign on behalf of the 87 Minority Members of Parliament, pointing out that it was characterized by focus and dedication to national development.
“Dr Bawumia’s victory reflects the overwhelming confidence NPP delegates have placed in his leadership and vision for Ghana’s future,” it stated.
The Minority Caucus additionally acknowledged the other aspirants who competed in the primaries, including Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, describing them as candidates of “considerable standing” who made meaningful contributions to the internal democratic process.
“The robust nature of this democratic exercise reflects the NPP’s enduring commitment to internal democracy and the principle that every voice matters equally within our political tradition,” the statement said.
The caucus called on party members to put aside differences and support the newly elected flagbearer, even if they acknowledged that the contest caused friction at times.
“The conclusion of this contest marks the beginning of a critical phase of reconciliation and unity,” it said. “We must transform yesterday’s divisions into tomorrow’s collective strength.”
