The Headmaster of Pentecost Senior High School, Peter Atta Gyamfi, has urged students to remain discipline and avoid violence during inter-school competitions following the stabbing of a Koforidua Secondary Technical (Sectech) student during the inter-school’s sports festival.
Speaking in an interview on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, Mr. Gyamfi stressed that sporting competitions should promote unity and celebration rather than conflict among students.
According to him, all participating schools represent the Eastern Region during such events and must therefore demonstrate sportsmanship and mutual respect.
“The advice we will give to the students is for them to understand that when a competition like this takes place, it is something we should all be happy about. At the end of the day, it is the Eastern Region we will be representing, so they should stay away from all petty misunderstandings and conflicts,” he stated.
He also revealed that some teachers were affected during the disturbances that accompanied the incident, with a number of them sustaining injuries while their cars were damaged.
“Our teachers also became affected when situations get to this stage. Some of our teachers became victims; stones that were thrown hit some of them on the head, and some of their car windscreens were smashed by hooligan students,” he explained.
He cautioned that such acts of violence could erode the bond between instructors and kids, and that repeated events may undermine teachers’ enthusiasm and loyalty to their institutions.
“If you are a teacher and something like this happens, it reduces the love you have for the students and the school,” he added.
