Former Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta-Akyea has urged former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana, cautioning that a protracted absence could lead to negative rumors in the public sphere.
Atta Akyea said in a media interview on AsaasePa Fm in Accra that if he were Ofori-Atta’s counsel and there were no real medical obstacles, he would strongly advise returning to the country right away.
“If I were his lawyer and knew he was not sick, I would tell him to come back to Ghana,” he said. “What can really happen to him?”
The former lawmaker claims that the former minister’s absence might be used by detractors to damage his reputation. He warned that when the person at the center of the debate is absent, public opinion can easily solidify into presumed guilt.
“The court of public opinion will make interpretations and predictions about his absence,” he noted, adding that such narratives often escalate and complicate matters further.
Atta Akyea maintained that confronting the matter head-on would help dispel rumors and lessen damage to one’s reputation.
“It is best to come and face it so that all these predictions will subside,” he advised.
