A security consultant, Richard Kumadoh, has raised concerns about the ongoing recruitment process into Ghana’s security agencies, questioning the transparency and procedures involved.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Mu, Mr. Kumadoh explained that background checks are an important part of recruitment into security agencies because authorities need to thoroughly assess applicants before they are accepted. According to him, if a person is left unchecked for even two or three days, it can be difficult to predict what may happen, which is why such investigations are necessary.
However, he noted that many applicants are complaining about the process. According to them, if authorities knew they were going to be disqualified, they should not have been allowed to proceed to the aptitude test stage. He said this concern from applicants has become part of the current controversy surrounding the recruitment exercise.
Mr. Kumadoh also questioned the role of the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, stating that it is not the minister’s responsibility to come and explain issues related to the recruitment platform being used.
He further asked several questions regarding the process, including how many people are being recruited, how much the government is paying the recruitment platform, and whether the exercise involves the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Prisons Service.
Mr. Kumadoh also wondered whether the current structure of the Ghana Police Service is incapable of successfully recruiting about one thousand people without external support.
He made these remarks while discussing concerns surrounding the recruitment process into the country’s security services.
