The Member of Parliament for the Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has stated that cocoa farmers in his constituency are mounting pressure on him over the recent cocoa price reduction under the administration of John Dramani Mahama.
According to the lawmaker, issues affecting cocoa farmers must be treated with seriousness and should not be politicized.
He explained that cocoa farmers currently have no strong advocates to speak on their behalf despite the challenges they are facing. He added that a large number of people in his constituency depend on cocoa farming for their livelihood.
Speaking in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt FM, the MP noted that the funds released by the government to settle cocoa farmers have not yet reflected in their lives.
Meanwhile, the government has released GHยข855 million to clear arrears owed to cocoa farmers after a prolonged payment crisis that left many farmers unpaid for months, despite delivering their cocoa to licensed buying companies.
