Solomon Owusu, a senior communication member of the United Party (UP), has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being inconsistent in its stance on procurement and sole sourcing procedures.
During an interview on Joy Prime’s AM Show, he stated that the party’s criticism of existing governance methods contradicts its own record, particularly on road contracts and procurement decisions.
“They are the maradona of sole sourcing in this country,” he said, adding that past administrations normalised procurement practices they now criticise.
Owusu further contended that the efficacy of legislative frameworks like the Bank of Ghana Act and the Public Procurement Act depends on their enforcement.
“You can pass all the laws you want, but if people decide to flout them blatantly, the system becomes weak. That is why implementation matters more than just legislation,” he said.
He argued that governance arguments should be based on consistency and evidence, rather than altering political viewpoints depending on whether a party is in power or opposition.
