The need for faith-based organisations to play a more active role in national development featured prominently at the opening of the 48th General Council Meeting of the Church of Pentecost in Gomoa Fetteh on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, called for stronger collaboration between the State and religious institutions to advance social transformation and national cohesion.
He said the Church has a critical role to play beyond spiritual guidance, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, sanitation, and economic empowerment.
Mr. Ibrahim commended the Church of Pentecost for its contributions to national development, citing its investments in educational institutions, healthcare delivery, water provision, and social intervention programmes across the country.
According to him, the Church’s initiatives including the establishment of basic and secondary schools, health facilities, and the construction of boreholes have significantly improved living conditions in many communities.
He noted that the Church’s Vision 2023–2028, which seeks to extend its impact beyond the pulpit into society, aligns with broader national development priorities.
The Minister further urged the Church to sustain its efforts in addressing social challenges such as child trafficking, child marriage, and environmental sanitation.
Touching on governance and social policy, Mr. Ibrahim also assured Ghanaians that processes toward the passage of the proposed family values legislation are ongoing through the Parliament of Ghana, and that government remains engaged in advancing the necessary procedures.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to working with faith-based organisations to promote peace, tolerance, and social cohesion, stressing that Ghana’s stability depends on effective collaboration among key stakeholders.
The 48th General Council Meeting is expected to deliberate on policy directions and strategies to enhance the Church’s impact in Ghana and beyond.
