The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Right Hon Prof Mike Aaron Oquaye has directed the Parliamentary Service Board and the Medical Team to liaise with the appropriate body to test Members of Parliament and Staff of the house for Coronavirus.
The speaker announced this in his opening remarks Tuesday after Parliament reconvene for the second meeting of the fourth session of the seventh parliament of the fourth republic.
“We are participants of public education on Coronavirus, can you imagine we members here going to educate the public have not been tested for, I direct on the authority of the parliamentary service board and parliamentary medical officers to liaise with the appropriate institution to conduct a test on all honorable members of parliament and staff of parliament on COVID 19. He directed.
Ghana has recorded 183 more cases of COVID-19 taking the country’s case count to 5,918, according to the latest figures released on May 19, 2020, by the Ghana Health Service.
Two more people have been confirmed dead from the deadly virus taking the death toll to 31. There have been no new recoveries as the number still stands at 1,754.
The Speaker of Parliament reminded the Lawmakers to adhere to the preventive protocols for Covid-19.
