Residents of Akyem Abomosu in the Eastern Region have benefited from a free health screening exercise organized by the Ankobeahemaa of the community, Nana Adepa Krantemaa, as part of activities marking this year’s Ankorabration celebration.
The health screening exercise was organized in collaboration with Yarktest Laboratory and Ultrasound Diagnostic Center with the aim of promoting good health and encouraging members of the community to regularly check their health conditions.
Speaking during the event, Nana Adepa Krantemaa, popularly known as Mama Yark, said the free screening was necessary because many people in society today suffer from various illnesses without knowing their health status. According to her, diseases such as high blood pressure have become a major concern because they continue to claim the lives of many people due to late detection and lack of regular medical check-ups.
She explained that the main purpose of the exercise was to help residents identify possible health problems early so that they can seek proper treatment and medical advice before their conditions become critical.
Nana Adepa Krantemaa noted that as a traditional leader and mother of the community, she believes it is important to support the wellbeing of her people. She added that good health is very important for every individual, stressing that a healthy community contributes to development and progress.
She further stated that aside from the health screening, the medical team also provided Hepatitis B vaccination for people who had not been vaccinated. According to her, the vaccination exercise was aimed at protecting residents from contracting the disease and creating awareness about the importance of preventive healthcare.
The screening exercise covered several medical services including blood pressure checks, hepatitis B testing and vaccination, typhoid testing, malaria testing, HIV testing, and other general health examinations, all provided free of charge to the people.
Many residents who attended the program expressed appreciation to Nana Adepa Krantemaa and the medical team for bringing healthcare services closer to the community. Some beneficiaries described the initiative as timely and helpful, especially for people who cannot afford regular hospital check-ups.
The exercise formed part of activities lined up for this year’s Ankorabration celebration, which seeks to promote unity, development, and the wellbeing of the people of Akyem Abomoso.
