Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), has rejected rumors that President John Dramani Mahama could step in to get former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu pardoned after she was extradited to Ghana.
Vanderpuye stated that President Mahama’s leadership is based on justice and respect for due process when speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, June 11. He insisted that he would not meddle in court cases or protect anyone from the repercussions of their conduct.
He hinted to the importance of holding public officials responsible for their acts by describing the extradition and imprisonment as a significant lesson in Ghana’s battle against corruption.
“Unless you don’t know President Mahama for who he is. But if you really know him, you know that he is somebody; you may be his friend, you may be a family member, but when it comes to certain things, he will let you face the wrath yourself. He will not go to shield you,” he stated.
His comments coincide with a public discussion about Sedina Tamakloe’s eligibility for presidential clemency following her arrival in Ghana to serve a 10-year prison sentence handed down by the Accra High Court.
Despite earlier accusations by detractors that she would not be returned to face justice, Vanderpuye emphasized that such conjecture is unfounded and that the government had no part in preventing her extradition.
“The NPP will be disappointed. First, they said she’s not going to come. The NDC will not allow her to come. Today, she’s here. The NDC has opened the gates, she has come. The NDC is going to make sure she goes through the conviction,” he said.
