More than 10 students have been arrested in connection with the violent clash between Okuapeman Senior High School (OKUASS) and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The arrests form part of ongoing investigations into the violence, which erupted around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and resulted in injuries and extensive damage to school property.
Six Okuapeman SHS students were injured and hospitalised following the incident. Four have since been treated and discharged, while two remain on admission.
Several facilities at Okuapeman SHS, including the Visual Arts studio, teachers’ office and seven classrooms, were reportedly burnt. Examination papers and certificates were also destroyed.
At Mount Sinai SHS, a storeroom and the boys’ washroom were among facilities damaged by fire.
The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has consequently ordered the temporary closure of both schools to restore calm and allow security agencies to conduct investigations.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Owusu-Bempah, has assured that all persons found to have participated in the violence, including those who attacked police officers deployed to the schools, will be arrested and prosecuted.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Apaak has also disclosed that the investigation could extend beyond students, as police are exploring whether individuals outside the schools may have influenced or facilitated the violence.
Authorities have warned that students or any other persons found culpable will face the full force of the law.
