President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces will serve as a major sub-contractor on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
The President said the decision forms part of efforts to leverage the technical expertise and engineering capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces in delivering critical national infrastructure.
President Mahama also directed the 48 Engineer Regiment to begin preparations to clear the right-of-way for the proposed New Accra Orbital Road.
The directive is expected to support the early stages of the project by ensuring that the required corridor is prepared for subsequent construction activities.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is a major infrastructure project intended to improve connectivity between the national capital and the Ashanti Region, reduce travel time and ease congestion along the major transport corridor.
The involvement of the 48 Engineer Regiment is expected to complement the work of private contractors while strengthening the state’s capacity to undertake major infrastructure projects.
