Eastern Regional Youth Organiser Samuel Osei Sarkodie, well-known as (SOS) has met Ghana international and LA Galaxy star Joseph Paintsil in the United States to discuss how sports can be used to empower young people in the region and across Ghana.
Sarkodie, who is currently in the United States for personal engagements, seized the opportunity to attend LA Galaxy’s Major League Soccer clash against Seattle Sounders, which ended 1-1, before meeting his friend after the game.
The meeting, however, went beyond friendship, as the two Ghanaians discussed ways they can use their respective platforms and experiences to support the development of young people through sports.
Their conversation centred on creating opportunities for talented youngsters, particularly in football, while exploring ways to identify, nurture and support emerging talents in the Eastern Region and Ghana.
Paintsil’s experience as a professional footballer in Europe and the United States, as well as his continued involvement with the Black Stars, gives him valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities young Ghanaian footballers face in pursuing careers at the highest level.
Sarkodie, meanwhile, has taken on a wider youth leadership role in the Eastern Region following his election as the Regional Youth Organiser. He previously served as the New Juaben North Youth Organiser, where he built experience working with young people at the constituency level.
The two believe their respective positions and experiences can be used to make a meaningful contribution to youth development, particularly by using sports as a platform to inspire, develop talent and create opportunities.
Sarkodie’s meeting with Paintsil therefore provided an opportunity to begin exploring possible ways of working together to support young people and promote sports development in the Eastern Region and Ghana.
