Minister of communications, Sam George, believes that opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is unlikely.
“I can assure you of one thing: the NDC is not going into opposition very soon,” he said while responding to questions on the sustainability of the one million coders program.
He clarified that, given the success they hope to achieve with its execution, no president would abandon the initiative even in the absence of the NDC government.
While speaking to students enrolled in the courses, the Minister, who is now on a working visit to the Volta Region, announced this.
“We are looking to create over a 100,000 digital jobs by 2028. I don’t think any president will come and say that because it was not my initiative, I am going to make 100,000 people lose their jobs. I can’t see how any president will do that.
Yes, there is a lot of politics in our country, but this programme is apolitical. We have not asked anyone whether you are NPP or NDC, all we askd for is your Ghana Card so I believe deeply in my heart that the success of this programme will make it impossible for any other government post Mahama administration to come and say they will not continue it,” he said.
