A 36-year-old Road Contractor has to recapture Ayensuano Parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress which has been struggling for the seat since the year 2000, shocking Incumbent Samuel Ayeh-Peye in the Eastern Region.
Samuel Ayeh-Peye who has been occupying the seat since 2008 pulled 18,536 votes in 2016 against Addi Teddy’s 14,820 votes.
After struggling to win the internal election to become Parliamentary candidate for the NPP, Ayeh-Peye was defeated in 2020 polls with 19,211 votes for Mr. Teedy, while the incumbent had 18,977.
The District was first called the Densuagya District when Addoagyiri, Sakyikrom, Mame Dede, and Kofi Sah were part but with the cutting away of all communities as named above, the name Ayensuano was adopted to replace Densuagya.
The River Ayensu is the largest and the longest river flowing through the entire District. Some of the tributaries of the Ayensu River are the rivers Kua, Anfa, Amo Kofi among others.
Some of the major towns in the District are Coaltar, Otoase, Teacher Mantey, Asuboi, Amanase, Sowatey, Anum Apapam, Kofi Pare, and Dokrochiwa.
In 1965, it was Kraboa-Coaltar and MP was Theodore Kofi Danso (CPP) while in 1969, Densuagya MP was Nana Toa-Akwatia II (PP).
Also in 1979, Densuagya MP was Mrs. Elizabeth Kusi-Aidoo (PNP) until 1992 where it became Ayensuano, and MP at the time was Amoaku Ogyadu Obuadabang Larbi (NDC).
