Rev Emmanuel Asante, a member of the Electoral Commission’s Eminent Advisory Committee has advised the National Democratic Congress supporters not to destroy any state property during their protests over the EC’s results of the 2020 polls.
According to him, the law permits members who are affected by the declaration to challenge through legal means but not illegal means.
Speaking in an interview on Accra based radio station, Rev. Emmanuel Asante detailed that the NDC’s have every right to demonstrate but they should do that in a peaceful manner in order not to generate chaos in the country.
“So far as the EC comes out with the results and declaration, the law permits members who are affected by the declaration to challenge through legal means since it is their right to do so,” he said.
Rev Asante also recapped his earlier call for the party to also consider a legal redress over their concerns.
The NDC has rejected the results of the polls announced by the electoral commission. The party at a press conference last week gave evidence to back their claim of ‘flawed’ election and accused the EC of vote padding in favour of the incumbent.
The party has called for the re-collation of results in some constituencies in the parliamentary contest.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has announced it will break for the Christmas festivities on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
