The West Akyem Municipal Director of Education in the Eastern Region, Mrs. Eunice Amfo Akonnor has said about 100 Teachers will be employed in 2021 to fill vacancies in the area.
She said currently there are 1,270 Teachers in the Public Schools in the Municipality but still schools in The Villages are lacking Teachers.
In an interview with mybrytfmonline.com reporter Kofi Atakora, the Education Director Mrs. Eunice Amfo Akonnor said a report has been sent to the Regional Directorate of Education to employ additional Teachers who are ready to accept posting to the Remote Areas.
The Director said there are over 28,000 students in the Municipality in 314 Schools which included 113 Kindergarten, 110 Primary Schools, three Senior High schools, 87 Junior High schools, and one Vocational Training Institute.
Mrs. Eunice Amfo Akonnor said the Municipal Education Directorate has eight Circuit Supervisors for Basic Schools, one Secondary school coordinator, and another coordinator for Technical and Vocational Schools.
She revealed that the education Directorate has put measures in place to protect students and Teachers from contracting and spreading COVID-19 and added that Teachers have been charged to add COVID -19 safety protocol supervision as part of Teaching and learning.
The Director said Supervision Team will be in Schools daily to inspect Teaching and learning in this Pandemic Period and said they toured about 30 Schools in the first week of school reopening.
In a related development, the Deputy Director in charge of Monitoring and Supervision, Mr. Daniel Yeboah has said some Schools are running shirt temporarily to decongest overcrowded classrooms.
