Assembly Members in the West Akyem Municipal and Upper West Akyem District Assembly of the Eastern Region failed to elect Presiding Members in runoff in Asamankese and Adeiso respectively.
The Newly elected Assembly and Unit Committee members across the country were sworn-in yesterday, Thursday, January 23, 2020.
The induction ceremony will pave way for the Assembly Members to officially commence work.
In an attempt to elect Presiding Members for West Akyem Municipal and Upper West Akyem District Assembly failed.
In the Upper West Akyem District, the competition was between two people, namely, Eric Kwasi Mensah, immediate past PM and an Assembly Member for Danso Electoral Area and Samuel Aticho Sikayena, Assembly member for Roman Ridge and current Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress.
At the end of polls supervised by the Electoral Commission, Eric Kwasi Mensah pulled 23 votes against 16 votes for Samuel Aticho Sikayena but in the second run, Kwasi Mensah vote reduced to 20 again 19 for Aticho of Total valid vote cast at 39.
In the West Akyem Municipal, the competition was between two New Patriotic Party Members; Mr. Kwasi Baah Yirenkyi, Assembly member for Breku-Manso B’ Electoral Area, who is also immediate past PM and the person is Mr. David Apetsi, government appointee and Constituency Secretary for NPP.
