Ghanaian forward Francis Afriyie has denied being under investigation in Egypt for allegedly threatening a journalist with death.
An earlier report in the Egyptian media outlet suggested that the Gor Mahia striker who plies his trade for Egyptian top-flight side Ghazl El-Mahalla jumped over the barriers around the club’s training field to confront a journalist before security restrained him.
Afriyie is reported to have resisted attempts by his teammates to calm him down as he tried to physically assault the journalist before security intervened to stop him.
This has prompted his outfit to open an investigation into the conduct of the Ghanaian player.
But the 26-year old has denied the allegations labeled against him and has asked the public to treat it with the needed contempt it deserves.
“It’s never true that I am under investigation over death threats, there isn’t any aorta of truth. I don’t want to talk much about this but I think people just want to tarnish my image” he said.
The pacey forward penned a six-month short-term deal with Ghazl El-Mahalla in January and is close to ending his spell with the club.
Afriyie began his career at Ghana Premier League side Bechem United before leaving the Hunters to join Serbian side Vojvodina in 2017.
Afriyie featured for Murciélagos Fútbol Club for a season before swapping the Mexican club for Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in 2019.
