The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed youngster Felix Afena-Gyan will not be available for the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa respectively.
Ghana must beat Ethiopia and South Africa to qualify for the Africa World Cup playoffs and stand any realistic chance of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Log leaders Bafana Bafana will take on Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on 11 November 2021 and three days later travel to Ghana for the match against the Black Stars on 14 November.
The 18-year-old who was named in coach Milovan Rajevac’s 28-man squad for the games has rejected the call up to focus on his development at Italian side AS Roma.
The handlers of the player believe he will need more time to mature and want him to focus on his development under Jose Mourinho.
A statement from the Ghana FA reads, “23 players will be travelling to South Africa for the game. Jonathan Mensah (Injured), Thomas Partey (Injured) and Felix Afena Gyan (Unavailable) will not travel with the team to South Africa for the clash against Ethiopia”
