The Kasoa Divisional Police Command has been accused of being responsible for the death of a 23-year Godfred Okai, who was in their custody after he was arrested in connection with the Kasoa Big Man Town robbery couple of weeks ago.

In the afternoon of December 20, 2022, a mobile money vendor was shot and an undisclosed amount of money was taken away by this three robbers who were on a motorbike at Kasoa Big man Town.
Bryt Fm News reported earlier that three armed robbers have shot a mobile money vendor into critical condition and took away undisclosed amount of money after they were captured by CCTV camera in the area.
Recounting their side of the story, family of the deceased said Godfred Okai was innocent and therefore calling on the police top hierarchy to investigate the death of their beloved thoroughly.
Godfred Okai, affectionately called ‘Junior’ by relatives and also known as “Why Worry” was being held by the police as suspect of a recent robbery occurrence as he was captured in the CCTV footage.
Family members of the deceased say, police broke into his room during the night of December 23 to arrest the suspect but failed to disclose the particular police station they were taking him to.
They narrated the police officers kept directing them to wrong police stations including the Headquarters as where he was being kept and even though they followed up to all those stations, ‘Junior’ could not be seen.
They explained the police however reached out to them on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 and invited them to the Kasoa Divisional Police Command where they were informed that, the suspect had fallen ill and died whilst in their custody.
Mother of the victim, Annal Dugan, believe he might have died as a result of brutality by the police.
She accuses the police of severely brutalizing the deceased at the point of arrest.
Meanwhile, some residents in the area are calling on the police administration to investigate matters surrounding his arrest, brutality and subsequent death thoroughly and have any faulting police officer sanctioned.
When contacted, Kasoa Divisional Commander Chief Supt. Charles Koosonu referred this reporter to the Central East Regional Commander ACP David S Eklu.
Efforts to reach him as at the time of filing this report were unsuccessful.
