Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi in the political circle has galvanised the entire Ashanti Regional NPP behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature.
To this goal, Wontumi has created a new catchphrase, ‘Bawumia Must Win’ (BMW), which is gaining traction among delegates in the country and preparing them to back the Vice President.
At a recent gathering intended to solicit votes and support for the Vice President, Chairman Wontumi announced the new catchphrase.
Delegates from the party, including various Members of Parliament (MPs), Regional and Constituency executives attended the program.
In an intercepted video from the event, Chairman Wontumi can be seen chanting the “BMW” motto and encouraging the gathered supporters to join him.
Chairman Wontumi was forthright about why he chose the vice president above the other options as he claim the NPP is in need of a strong candidate who can defeat the other presidential contenders in a contest that will undoubtedly be very difficult for the NPP in 2024.
He asserted that Dr. Bawumia is without a doubt the most qualified and experienced candidate the NPP can put forth, and he promised to run a campaign to bring the Vice President to power as Ghana’s president in 2025.
The nomination of Alan Kyeremanten, the Trade and Industry minister, as the NPP’s flagbearer signals a significant shift in the contest to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Kyeremanten campaign would be all but dead if the Vice President chose to target his home region, therefore Chairman Wontumi backing Bawumia and rallying the Ashanti region to his side is alarming indication.
Meanwhile, many political activists have predicted a tight contest between the Vice President and the Trades and Industry minister.
